This isn't about registering a new account for myself, this is just meant as a platform for discussing ideas on how to make registration a possibility again for new users.
Considering every once in a while an account is blocked for (repeated) ToS violations, would it be a good idea to consider cleanup waves of long-term blocked accounts to decrease the amount of activated accounts and temporarily re-enable user registration?
Or, perhaps allow existing users to invite new users to fill in the slots freed up from deleting long-term blocked accounts. I think there are plenty people out there who wouldn't abuse the free offering here, that would obviously make better use of the resources than blocked accounts.
The idea behind invites is a form of a semi-closed-loop system where users in good standing are given the permission to invite others, but are also held responsible when their invitees misbehave. The exact approach is intentionally omitted as this is merely a proposal.
